Welcome to the "Now Stitching..." Works in ProgressIf you've come from the main "Now Stitching" page, this page will show you the steps that went before. You can follow projects from the glimmer of an idea through completion. If you want to see the latest posts, click here to go directly to works that are in progress now. I don't post new patterns until I have stitched them. But I can give you a sneak peek at what's in the works. Every few days we post a screen shot during design or a picture of designs as I'm stitching them. This archive is the history of those posts. The entries in this archive are in date order from top to bottom.
September 8 Curly Q's AlphabetDecorative alphabets can be challenging to design. Often, as elements are added, readability is sacrificed. This isn't an issue if you are stitching only a word, a name, or brief, familiar phrase. But if the design depends on the text being easily read, we usually have to resort to simpler letters. Not so with "Curly Qs." As I changed the floss color to green or red for Christmas, red or pink for Valentine's day, as well as a variety of other colors, this alphabet seemed to "become" that holiday. I hope you'll find lots of uses for this letter set. Click the image above to see the full alphabet in a new window or tab.
You should notice a change in the page showing all of our alphabets. The list was getting so large that the page was loading more slowly than we like. Now you'll see just a few letters as the first example, as in "Curly Q's" above. Click on any one of these, and you'll be taken to the individual page where you will be able to see the entire alphabet.

September 24 Stitching Finished on Iris BookmarkFrom the Golden Treasures Collection, I finished stitching my Iris bookmark design. The reverse side came together nicely as I stitched it, making a nice complement to the front floral design. The Balger Metallic Floss used in the front and back borders adds a nice sparkle to the bookmark. Unfortunately, you can't see it in the photographs. Click on each image to see a larger version in a new tab or windowYou can mix and match elements of this design with the those of the tulip bookmark. Keep the back borders the same and just change the floss colors. Then, put the "bloom" text on the back of the Tulip bookmark, and stitch a name on the Iris piece. Remember, too, that you can always experiment with different fringe designs. "No right or wrong" is the name of the game, here. I have already sewn the sides together. The next step is to make the fringe. I will finalize the chart and instructions soon and post a link here on Now Stitching when it is available for download.

September 26 Fringe Finished on Iris BookmarkI made the fringe a little different for this bookmark than for the Tulip one. You can see how I did it by clicking on Make Fringe in the Tutorials Section of the menu on the left of this page. Click on image to see a larger version. Click on image to see a larger version. Compared with the Tulip design, this one has fringe on the sides in addition to the ends, and it contains no accents. You can see the differences more easily on the larger versions of the images. Click on image to see larger version. Click here for the free tulip chart. Watch Now Stitching for the completed Iris "Bloom where your're planted" design.
