Joy Christmas
Cross Stitch Ornament

Few words can describe in some small way the emotions of Christmas. Among those is "Joy!"

In this series of Christmas Cross Stitch designs, I'll try to depict some of the words that describe "the reason for the season." While Christmas may have become highly commercialized in the popular culture, in our hearts Jesus still reigns supreme.

We pause often to remember that, and, in the midst of the blare of piped-in store muzak and television ads that equate love with size of the gift, listen for that "still small voice" in sharp relief.

How to Use It

  • These designs combine beauty and sophistication with ease of stitching. They're great projects for beginners or young stitchers, while the experienced will appreciate how many they can complete in a small amount of time.
  • They make great gifts for coworkers, teachers, friends, family--one at a time or as a set.
  • Though we've stitched these as ornaments, they can also be used on napkins, towels, table runners, any place your imagination takes you.

I embroidered "Christmas Ornament - Joy" on 14-count Aida with DMC 6-strand cotton floss, accented it with gold Kreinik Metallic floss. The front and back were stitched on two separate squares, then connected with half stitches. The ornament was padded, then finished off with a gold ribbon hanger and surrounding fringe.
